Abstract Synopsis
          25% of African americans graduate from Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU).
          Five themes were found consistent in this study, suggesting that African americans attend (HBCUs) based on Alumni, Location, Legacy, Cost, and Cultural Identity.

Into Breakdown
           (HBCUs) only represent 3% of America's higher education institutions. There is this idea that education is directly associated with life and social class, and was and can be used to divide citizens into the haves and have nots. It was and is believed that if you are white you have all the choices and opportunities laid out for you. However if you are black, it is quite the opposite. Education was originally designed for white men and merchants in the 1700's both women and excluding poor white and black americans. In short racism has to be acknowledged to understand and develop these conversations about (HBCUs).

Conclusions Breakdown
            In many ways, including prior to this study there has been a consistency among what influences African americans to choose attending an (HBCU), and those are family, peers, institutional characteristics, fit, and cost.
